Beginner's Mind - Mission | “Unforgetting the Beginner's Mind, Carrying on from Strength to Strength” - China Conservatory of Music Students and Teachers Theme Concert at Guotu

At 19:30 on December 10, 2019, “Unforgetting the Beginning and Carrying Forward - China Conservatory of Music Teachers‘ and Students’ Theme Concert”, co-sponsored by China Conservatory of Music Organs' General Party Branch and Joint Party Branch, the Party Committee's Postgraduate Department, the Graduate School, and the Art Center of the National Library, was held in the Concert Hall of the Art Center of the National Library. This concert is also a featured activity of the university's theme education “Unforgetting the Beginning, Keeping the Mission in Mind”.

With the theme of “Unforgetting the Beginning, Carrying on the Past” and with patriotism as the core, the concert selected 20 representative vocal works since the 20th century, ranging from looking back at the humble beginnings of the founding of New China, remembering the bravery of the revolutionary martyrs, to imagining a happy life in the new era and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Teachers and students of the China Conservatory of Music dedicated their songs to the motherland and sang about the extraordinary development of the People's Republic of China over the past 70 years.

 

In accordance with the requirements of the Notice on the “Five One” Activities of Grassroots Party Branches in the Theme Education of “Unforgetting the Beginner's Mind, Keeping the Mission in Mind”, the concert carried out public welfare volunteer services and was open to the general public in the capital for free, helping to further enhance the aesthetic and cultural qualities of the capital's citizens. The program will be open to the general public in the capital city free of charge, helping to further enhance the musical aesthetics and cultural literacy of capital citizens.

Prof. Ma Jinquan from the Department of Vocal Song of China Conservatory of Music, Associate Prof. Li Lin from the Department of Vocal Song, PhD students Chen Kasa Kasa, Ma Xiaoming, Li Ye, Huang Lu, Mao Yihan, and excellent master's degree students Cai Sweet Sweet, Liu Gao, Xu Bowen, Zhou Bin, etc., took the stage to sing with deep emotion. Among them, Ma Xiaoming and Mao Yihan are the winners of the 12th China Music “Golden Bell Award”.

In order for the audience to better understand the connotation of the work and the art of vocal music, the concert invited Prof. Zhang Tiantong, Secretary of the Joint Party Branch of Scientific Research, to be the academic host. Prof. Zhang, through his in-depth explanation, led the audience to enjoy the beauty of vocal art in the touching and moving songs, and fully felt the vicissitudes of the 70 years since the founding of New China.

Teachers and students of the China Conservatory of Music sang classic cantatas such as “Praise for Red Plums”, “Bashan Shushui to be Liberated” and “Mother's Parents in Taihang”, which illustrated the indomitable heroism of the CPC in the hard times without any fear of bloodshed and sacrifice, and eulogized the boundless love of the common people of China in the war years, who actively supported the war against the Japanese and selflessly sacrificed themselves, and presented vividly the characters with distinctive characters in front of the audience. The songs “In Pursuit”, “Military and Civilian Production” and “Fluttering Red Flag” respectively expressed the deep attachment of the Chinese people to their motherland, their determination to win the war, and their admiration for the revolutionaries' everlasting fighting spirit in the war-torn era.

The concert featured household songs such as “The East is Red” and “Wave of Sand - Beidaihe”, which aroused the audience's unforgettable memories of those glorious days and their reverence for the great leader. Works such as “White Clouds Hometown”, “The Sun Rises on the Grassland” and “Back to Yan'an” express the people's deep love for their hometowns and their profound remembrance of the revolutionary forefathers who sacrificed their lives during the war years. Sentimental Land”, composed at the beginning of the reform and opening-up period, sings the heroic feelings of the youth of the times who aspire to devote themselves to the construction of the country. Sending Thoughts to My Heart” expresses the infinite love and deep remembrance of hundreds of millions of people for Premier Zhou Enlai. At the concert, the audience also enjoyed the excellent songs of the new era, such as “Never Forget the Beginning”, “On the Road to Sunshine”, “Shichahai - Song of the Heart”, “The Golden Rooster Announces the Dawn”, “Ode to the Red Flag” and so on.

As the stage practice base for professional graduate students of the Graduate School of the University, the Art Center of the National Library of China provides a first-class platform for this concert.

 

The “Unforgetting the Beginning, Carrying Forward - China Conservatory of Music Teachers‘ and Students’ Theme Concert” is a special activity for our teachers and students to carry out the theme education of “Unforgetting the Beginning, Keeping the Mission in Mind”. During the event, the students of China Conservatory of Music kept the original heart, took up the mission, looked for gaps, grasped the implementation, and actively served the society, contributing to the promotion of the construction of the “National Cultural Center” in Beijing!
